Bittrex is a cryptocurrency trading platforms. It is primarily used by cryptocurrency holders to trade cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Steem. According Bloomberg, the company was founded in 2014 and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada. [1]

In May 19th, 2017, the steemian KingsCrown (@kingscrown) posted that Bittrex was one of the first exchanges to trade Steem Tokens but Poloniex was the top volume BTC/altcoin exchange at that time.[3] In July 10th, 2016, few days after the first Steem Tokens payouts in July 4th, one of the Bittrex founders, Richie (@bittrex-richie) published his Introduceyourself post on Steemit, reffering other founder Bill Shihara (@bittrex-bill).[4]

Use

Bittrex, like Poloniex, is commonly used by Steemians as a platform to convert Steem and Steem Dollars into Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

As users are unable to use Bittrex to withdraw fiat, it becomes a launch pad for Steemians to transfer their Bitcoins to cryptocurrency wallets or other cryptocurrency trading platforms which, while they do not currently accept Steem, are able to convert Bitcoin into fiat, and subsequently allows users to deposit fiat into their bank accounts. Such includes CRXZone.
